For almost the whole duration of the Kakania project (kakania.co.uk) I’ve been based in Viet Nam. SJ Fowler paired me, aptly, with Egon Schiele – an artist with overwhelming impact on my practice.
Physically distant from the project’s events & thrown into a new realm, visual poetry spewed out. Most of the words were written on a forced trip to Ha Noi, in the mysteriously named Kafe Kalinka. Schiele ponders the Orient and rolling cigarettes. There is so much empty space in Schiele’s work & so in these visual poebs. Viet Nam is hot, the poetry cold.
8 visual poebs made the cut for the Kakania Anthology & here they are. So honored to channel Schiele on those 8 pages. Beautifully produced by Polimekanos (http://www.polimekanos.com/), thanks to the Austrian Cultural Forum. Let me know if you want a copy.
