Through the Marble Portal

Ngũ Hành Sơn. There are five mountains for five elements, outside Đà Nẵng. This is Water Mountain. It is made of marble.

Buddhists sculptures and shrines appear in great and small caverns that seem to fluctuate in size – pushing and pushing light as night waves. The caves are full of poetry. Chinese script and paintings fade on the walls. Echoes. Ammonium. Incense. Sulphur. It makes us hungry.

There are no monsters; there are Mimih passing through.

I can’t help but think of Tim Atkins and his Buddhist Saints.
